Have a 96 virago 535. Was running a little rough the last couple days, while on my way to work it died out as if it was flooded or out of fuel (plenty of good fuel in tank). When I went to restart it and turned the key there’s a new noise coming from around the battery/hidden tank. Each time I turn the key on it makes the same noice for the same amount of time each time the key is turned, seems like it’s the fuel pump priming but it’s much louder than its ever been. Could this be a bad fuel pump or a bad solenoid? P.S. it does this when I have the fuel pickup in both on and reserve position.

sounds like the impeller on the pump shaft has let go. it happens when they get old.
