Is a bulkhead on a sled the same as a Frame on a car? If you need to fix one is it something a guy shoudl stay away from? Thanks

What did you do to it? Some can be fixed, and some cannot, it depends on the extent of the damage.

Assuming you're talking about the bulkhead on your Viper (although it does apply to the bulkhead of other sleds too), it is a MAJOR component of the sled's structure. Many important items attach to it, not the least of which is the suspension. The integrity of the bulkhead is pretty important, and I don't know if repairing it is such a hot idea. It's cast aluminum, so if you have it out (wow- a major undertaking) then you might take it to a good welder and find out if it's even feasible.

Mine sled is not hurt, I was thinking of buying a wrecked sled and turning it into a project. Most of them have damaged bulkheads.
Bigmac thanks for the picture. Now I'm up to speed. Thanks!

Well let me start with saying it can be done, I bought a 03 Viper with 200 miles on it all that it needed was a new bulkhead and trailing arm. I'm not the most mechaniclly inclined person but my brother and I managed puting on the new bulkhead in about 8-10 hours. Mine was craked right down the center so I bought a used one from a 02 Viper. Since I've done this work over the summer I have put on 1000 hard miles, some we rode this weekend at the TY ride. I have not noticed any of the rivets breaking or shifting yet, altough my clutch aliginment was way off and we had to shift the motor this weekend. But to be honest I'm not to sure that this will stay on there forever if you are riding hard and jumping, due to it being pretty difficult to get all the rivets back in and get them all to align, in the process of replacing my bulkhead I had apx. 5 rivets out of the 40 that i could not get lined up no matter what I did. I think it's a good idea if you want to get a deal on the sled and maybe ride for a year or two. Also you have to remove all the suspension, left and right cowl is apx. 40 rivets alone and then the bulkead. But I took my chances and very happy with the sled and the results.
i had a stump skip out in front of me earlier this year and it smashed the bulkhead back so far the center of it was touching the motor. about 3 hours, a come a long, a 15 ton porta power, and a little skilled welding later, i had it strsght and fixed without removing it from the sled. i should have took pictures but i was too pissed at my self. damn trees who needs them anyway
