On my 2001 yamaha sxr the temp light flashes 1 long and 3 short. What does this mean? Thanks for any help

it means there is a shorting with the water temp sensor circuit
not sure what it means but my 01 700 does the same on start up. something to do with the hotter mag coils for the double headlight. you should notice your light has no power going to it till the sled is running. its normal.

on start up it flashes 3 times all the SAME length, and that is the diagnostic system check to make sure that everything is working right. You gotta look at it quick when you start it though, or you will miss the first flash. None of the accessories come on until 800 RPM so that the engine can devote all of its power to very strong spark for start up, thats why the headlight and gauges dont come on right away.
