I set my Viper up per Super Torquer recommendations: 46/36 helix, gray spring, 3.3 all the way across. I added.5 to the heel and I have a 21 tooth gear, TPI valves opened all the way, green spring @ 70 and transfer rods set all the way up. It feels fast, pulls the skis right up. I also had it up to 114 on speedo. The problem is, I am just barely beating my 99 sx7 that is clutched well with thin head gasket, and a ZRT 600 that I think is stock. I felt that with all the hype with these weights I should blow these sleds a way. I am only hitting 8200 rpm and it just doest feel like the midrange is that strong. Would the TY set up be better? I have a 51/43 and a 49/42 laying around, any suggestions?

You got too much weight in the thing. Try moving it around to 5 grams heel, mid empty with 5 grams tip. You wanna see 85-8600 rpm on the tach.

Thanks Turk. I was going to lighten the middle hole. What combination do you use to get the 5 on the heel? Can you use more than 4 washers if I use the 2.3 bolt? Would the red spring work better? Thanks.

Run the grey spring. Just get close to 5 grams & fine tune from there.

Similar issues....

Hmmm interestingly I am having the same senario againt a 97 sx700.

I have the HC and a 46/36 helix with a black spring (not sure if it is stock or not) at 70. I set my HC with 3.3, 3.3, 3.3 and ran both the HC red spring and a short purple Bender Spring.

The red spring would engage at 4500 and didnt seem to be that punch in the middle although it wound out to 8500. The purple spring engages at 3000rpm and winds out to 8000rpm.

I am going to put in the grey HC spring and try it. How ever you have me wondering with your comments about everthing being to heavy.....maybe lighten the entire HC and run a softer spring like the bender purple?

Also how much does the Secondary spring come into play? Do changes there affect performance much? Would I gain any benefits by trying to find a yamaha green spring?

Thanks
Jeremy

Lighter and softer should work well. Get the specs for both springs in front of you, and make an educated guess as to how much mass you'll need with the softer spring.

Sounds like you need to loose a gram or so all the way up the weight, might get ya close.
