Hey guys, recently acquired a 98 SRX700B with 5000 miles. I'm a 4 stroke guy with 2 Nytros, 1 Apex, and a RX1. I've never messed with a 2 stroke. I read about the cranks in 98-99 700s needing to be welded. We are looking to race this sled and do radar runs. Why would you weld the crank together? Is this even a worry? I'm confused.

Welcome to the Forum - These triple cranks are pressed together @ 120 degrees apart. all of the 98-99 cranks were recalled and welded so that the 120 degree orientation doesn't move.
I wouldnt do anything. Yours is probably welded. If you have access to the original owner I could ask if they remember a crank recall.

Dug a little deeper. Contacted original selling dealer. They show service records until 2002 with regular maintenance and only a service bulletin regarding the crank. Crank was found to be within spec with no mention of welding. Anyone have first hand experience welding this crank? I'm a very competent mechanic. Where were the welds placed and how? MIG? TIG? ARC?

I'm pretty sure they use a TIG welder and they weld the crank pins. My 2002 srx crank is out if youd like a photo of where
