Why does my 97 VMAX 700SX eat hifaxes? all the wheels, bearings and hifaxes were replaced on 12/20/04 and the hifaxes are shot already. Is this normal. I have about 455 miles on them. I'm not an abusive rider so what gives? Is it just the suspension on the 97 models? Jim
If your riding in good snow they should last long i have about 2000 miles on mine with some of that being lake riding.

Are you running the track as loose as possible ? Even with studs you should run the track loose. Loosen it to the point it starts to ratchet, then tighten it up until it stops ratcheting ( jumping the cogs ) and run it there. It should wear down to the wear line and stop. Use a 10mm open wrench as a guide for replacement. If the open end of the wrench fits over the slide from the side you will want to change them. If not run it !
what pat said, most run their tracks way to tight, loosen them up, i get 2000 to 3000 miles out of all slides.
thanks for the wrench tip, never knew that.

Conditions could be part of it this year. I got only about 400 miles out of last years set, but this year after loosening the track and installing oversize wheels up front I've done more than 400 miles in much worse conditions than last year and they're still good. Note I bought Kimpex oversize idler wheels for my 97 sx7 but I also had to order bearings with the correct ID since there is no removable plastic spacer in the oem wheels on my sled, then I had to get longer grade 8 bolts from an auto parts store since the yamaha wheel bolt would not work. The wheels and bearings are larger and thicker making the oem bolts too short. They larger wheels look better too because they are red.
