I am replacing the comet clutch that was on a 99 600SX triple with a stock Yamaha primary. I currently have one with 8CA weights and was wondering if these would be too aggressive for trail riding as compared to the stock 8DG weights. Any advice would be appreciated.

If they are much heavier and you change nothing else, then yes. But if you replace the other clutching parts to fit, sure they will be fine. I have 66 gram weights in my 97 sx 600 twin with a thinner headgasket.

I have the recommended helix and spring for tuning the secondary as well but I was thinking that the 8CA set up may be great for a hole shot in drag racing but cause excessive track spin for groomed trail riding. I guess I could always try leaving the stock 21/40 gearing rather than the recommended 20/40.
