I thinking about long tracking my SRX this summer and would like some info on the different ways to do it.I've seen the rail extension kits offered from a couple of different places, tracks USA being the best so far,but wondered about using 136" rails instead.Does either mod affect the suspension dynamics in a negative way or is there no difference in shock location from using the longer rails?I'm trying to find a couple of pictures that I can compare the 2 with but have'nt yet.Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

If you are handy with basic tools, the kit from Tom Hartman is slick and easy. When you move the suspension back and down, the rider is placed ahead of the rear suspension and it makes the suspension "work" itself more comfortably through the bumps. My SX-R has been run with it since early winter 2000, and I'm very happy with it. Angle of attack gets you up onto powder very well, but you need a taller (narrow front end or longer shocks) to keep the nose up in the deeper stuff. You asked.

how much does the relocation move the suspension? And does this involve shorter rail extensions than the non-relocation setup because the skid is further back in order to maintain the 136 track length? Not sure how it works...

Yes, shorter rail extensions and back between 3 & 4 inches. New drop brackets at the rear so the tunnel sits up more at the back. Cross over tube instead of rear cooler (no heat problems and I run triple pipes), 141/144 tunnel extension and hose covers so it looks a little longer than it really is.

What he said ;)!

I should have mentioned that I ride flatland not mountains and am looking to get a better ride out of the sled not so much about getting up on top of the snow.Is the Hartman kit the only one that relocates the rear shock?I have'nt seen any other mention of it with the other kits.

Some say relocating the rear skid back makes the sled ride harsh... I am not sure what they are talking about because I love my sled setup like that. Take Skidooboys route & go with Tracksusa rail extensions & a MPI or Hartman tunnel extension. The 136" SRX my buddy has rides sweet.... The only downside I see it the tunnel extension look a bit long on the stock skid 136" sleds.

i went with mpi option 2 kit, rail extensions, tunnel extension, and relocation. kit looks as good as a stock sled. Function is great. I can send u some pics if you want. i am very satisfied with the on and off trail handling, have not been able to play too much in the powder as the snow has been sh*//y this year.
