This might be a long shot, but worth a try. I just started grass dragging my 02 Viper in the stock class last year. I’ve been taking in as much info as I can from the SRX threads and it has helped as I’m seeing some improvements, but wondering if anyone has ever had a good set up as far as clutching, gearing, etc. for a viper. I’m getting a pretty decent hole shot, could improve a bit (thinking an R track with chisels will help with that as I get some track spin). Most of the sleds I can hang with until about mid track and then they start to pull away on me (400-500ft track). My current set up is:
Heel clicker grey primary spring with 2 engagement shims (red spring is sacked out)
4gr in the heel
Empty in center and tip
Green sec spring @ 70 deg
51/37 bender helix
20/39 gears
145 main jets
52.5 pilots
Trail track with 144 trail studs
Suspension is already set pretty decent.

there was a stock yamaha spring turk posted back in the day that was a direct replacement for the red heel clicker spring. sry i do not remeber what it was.

Are you running the stock air box?
I think you can lower the mains more.
Bump your ignition timing up.
If you're running stock pipe class, you won't beat F7's imo.

Yeah, I know it’s hard to beat the F7’s, the last race I was close to a couple of them. So the well set up ones I know I have basically no chance… I’m running K&N filters on the carbs, no air box. Any chance I would gain anything from running the air box instead? That idea has been at the back of my head. I got some different gears to test out and going to play with clutching a bit to see if my ET’s get any better.
It would be nice to know if there’s any other clutch set ups out there besides heel clickers I could try out for grass drags…
