Hey, it's been sitting for a few years, has good compression, very bad gas which equals dirty carbs probably, has flatslide carbs it looks like, decent shape needs a bath, any info from you experts is appreciated, thanks! 2344 miles!

I guess nobody knows anything about a sxr500 on here.Hey, it's been sitting for a few years, has good compression, very bad gas which equals dirty carbs probably, has flatslide carbs it looks like, decent shape needs a bath, any info from you experts is appreciated, thanks! 2344 miles!
not much to tell you, they are good runners with very few issue from what I remember. The skid and chassis in trailing arm pro-action, so it has the same growing pains as other models.

welcome to the 500 club!
i ran 2001 sx500r from 04-08 that i bought new as a leftover in 04. it was a little trail corner carving rocket. at that milage, the engine is just broke in well. it responded well to a few mods from the tec pages and a few of my own for fuel milage/speed.
it liked the reed stopper notch mod as it made it easier to start and had crisper throttle response.
i did do a version of the vmaxjhon clutcing set up from user set up page. i only substituted an aftermarket weight for easier adjustment.
i did re gear mine to 22/39 from 21/39 for fuel milage as well as top speed. with the 21 top gear, it was only good for 80 mph wide open and would average 8 mpg. with the 22 tooth gear, it would top out around 95 mph and average 9-10 mpg witch was a big improvement trail running.
it did steer better with setting the steering up according to betheviper in the tec pages. i never did set the rear supension on that one but it was good for me from factory.
i did put a 1.25" ripsaw on it and that made it stick to the trails pretty dang good compared to stock yokohama.
mine ran on the warm side for some reason, so i did put in a srx rear cooler to help keep it cool.
mine also had the cb performance trailing arm kit on it after someone else mangled a stocker on a tree while on a ride with them.
other than needing to use a hair dryer to get it started under -40 c conditions when it was new to go for a ride, it never gave me any issues in the time i owned it. sold it to my youngest brother when i bought my rx warrior and the only real issue he had was it breaking a drive axle but he did a lot of off trail with it. brother did do the motor for the guy he sold it to before covid and as far as i know is still running it.
