Had some ratcheting and traced it to a loose chain in the chaincase, somehow I got the linkage screwed up, and am having some difficulty getting it sorted out.
I plan on pulling off the side case, working the shifter back and forth and somehow realigning the the shift arm so that it lines up with the shifter linkage. If anyone can get me pointed in the right directions I'd appreciate it.
Not sure whether the previous owner changed the gears but there is a lot of slop (extra chain) beyond the limit of the chain adjuster, so I brazed on a washer so the adjustment bolt wasn't threaded all the way in. Prior to this the adjuster bolt was screwed all the way in and there was too much free play.
