1998 SRX700 that has just been freshened, ported, mega power heads, custom pipes. Anyway, I cannot get the thing to idle down, I have the throttle screw backed out all the way, and I don't see anything binding the throttle. I am jetted at 150 straight across, 45 pilots, fuel screws 2 turns out. Idles between 1900-2300, I have to blip the choke to get it to drop down for a moment and then it runs back up again. Is this a fuel screw thing??? Thanks!

lower your idle screw till it idles when it revin and wont come down my 98 does the same thing idle around 1400 works

let me know how it works, i have the same prob on my 99
I don't know if I made this clear, the throttle stop screw is backed out all the way, the throttle doesn't close anymore, I can keep backing it out and nothing happens because the throttle is bottomed out on the hardstop.

Try turning out the fuel screw. Stock is 1 1/8 turn out. I would try at least 2 turns out...maybe 2 1/4. Don,t go more then 3 cus the screw might fall out.

Yes it sounds like a "fuel screw thing" , ...you might have to fatten up your pilot jets.

Maybe the throttle cable is to tight

Check your throttle cable if that does'nt work richen up the pilots.
The throttle cable is fine, everything is working properly, I am going to back out the fuel screws and see what happens, I think I am going to go to about 2 and half turns, that should do it huh? I'll let you know.

If it was me I would put 47.5 pilots in it then adjust your fuel screws.
I agree about going to the 47.5 on the pilots, which is what I will probably do, but I would like to pose a couple of more questions... With the 47.5 pilots, where would a person start with the screws if two turns on the 45's wern't doing the trick? Would I start off at two turns on the 47.5's and go from there or will that be overkill? Also, I ran the stock setup last year with the 42.5's and the thing ran perfect with the stock motor. This year with the addition of the mega power heads and the different pipes it seems hard for me to believe that that would require that much more fuel in the low end. Can someone help explain this to me? Is is the compression or the pipes or a combinations of the two? I guess I am just looking for reasoning for the changes I make so they are justified in my mind. Thanks!

i would start at 2 turns with the 47.5's. You probably need fuel because of the added compression as well as the pipes. The pipes will flow more air (or change the resonance, leaning out the mixture more at idle) and the added compression will cause a quicker burn.

Well I finally got back to it, with no snow here in southern MN it is hard to get pumped up to work on a sled. Anyway, heading out to Cooke City this weekend so I got 'er back together. I popped in the 47.5 pilots and turned out the screws to two turns, and fired the sled back up and that seemed to do the trick. Now I can use the idle screw to set the idle, , and it will drop down pretty low now. Thanks for help to those that offered and I'll have to post some pics of the deep stuff when I get back.
