Took my first ride on an RX-1 today - my father bought one - only has 20 miles on it - felt real tight, thought the brake was on when I tryed to take off - other than that, I'm pretty impressed - didn't seem quite as quick as my SRX's, but real close - rides nice and handles nice - going to the U.P. this weekend to put some more miles on it - won't be long and I'll probably be riding a 4 stroke!

The '05 RX-1 I rode was nice. I found it to be kind of noisy though (you constantly have that "crotch rocket" noise bouncing around in your helmet). However, I had just gone done trying out a Vector, so Im sure anything would have seemed loud.
Im not surprised that the RX felt a little bit slower than your SRX. The SRX hits hard, but the RX's powerband is much smoother, so it feels slower and less powerfull, even though it isnt.
Be carefull, one ride on the RX and your 2-stroke will probably be for sale!

OOOOOPS....had my first ride on an '03 RX1 this past weekend. Fun Factor = HUUUUUGE. I had a blast on it. Seems that you can never find the end to the power. It just keeps going and going until you freak out and let off the throttle. Had not much fun climbing aboard my Mountain Max though. I think its for sale.Hehehe. Actually I think I'm gonna put it back to stock and let the g/f ride it!!!

Just got back from the U.P. - didn't get to ride the RX-1 as much as I would have liked to - going back up this weekend - rode it mostly on county roads - nice powerband - real stable feel with not alot of ski lift - seems to handle nice - going to get out on some trails this weekend - we raced 2 or 3 times in an open field - I beat it everytime out of the hole, even when I let him take off first - at midrange they stayed pretty even - didn't get to race a long distance - my SRX has a ripsaw and has been clutched - probably why I'm getting him out of the hole so bad - still not ready to give up the ol SRX just yet!

I've had several SRX's - the one I have now has a long travel kit front and rear with the ripsaw track - it is by far the best SRX I've ever had - it rides and handles awesome with the legendary SRX acceleration - hard to beat the fun factor!

If the RX is stock its really not a fair comparison. Put a clutch kit in the RX and see what happens.
I think the biggest thing about the RX-1 that really raised some eyebrows was the potential this sled has. Before the RX-1 came along, you had to do some pretty serious mods to get a sled up to 200 hp. Now, with enough turbo boost you can get an RX-1 to 300 hp and beyond! Pretty impressive when you consider that less than 5 years ago all the magazines speculated that it would be at least 20 years before you saw any 4-stroke sleds. Even then, they said, 4-strokes would have to be big displacement to make power (Ok, so they were right on that one) and would get horrible fuel economy (but they were dead wrong on that one!).
The RX-1 was (like a few other Yamahas) way ahead of its time.

i agree, it was a pretty darn good move to put that engine into a sled, and now things are just building off of that. They know where it's all going
