my viper isn't overheating at all but it is pushing antifreeze out the of the overflow. does anyone know why it is doing this? could it be pressurized from somewhere else and pushing it out?

2 possibilties. 1: it actually is overheating 2: Blown head gasket. ===SRXSRULE===

now i'm pretty sure that a blown head gasket would be noticeable. what should i be looking for with a blown headgasket?

Its not as easy to spot as you may think. alot depends on how bad it is. One, do a compression check and look for a low cylinder. Two, look for a greenish/wite build up on the spark plugs. Three. Completely fill the cooling system all the way to the neck of the collant jug, then turn the key off and start pulling the rope several times. If the coolant level rises, or you see air bubbles coming out, the is combustion gasses getting into the cooling system. If the level drops during this test, top the coolant off again and re-test. ===SRXSRULE===

i've blown several headgaskets (most of them on polairs's) and thats exactly what it does, pushes coolant out and eventually overheats

ah, don't know when mine is overheating b/c my temp sensor plug is loose and i can't get it to keep a contact. does the engine run any different?

srxsrule, i did #3, coolant doesn't rise or drop. i pulled on it probably 30 times. i'm gonna try and get a pressure gauge tonite and try that, what psi should i be getting?

test #3 should be tried on a cold engine, and also when its warmed up but not hot. Compression should be aprox 110 on clutch side and 130 on center and mag side. this is due to the head design. Also, is the wiring loose on your temp sensor, or is the sensor loose in the head? ===SRXSRULE===

test #3 was when the engine was warm, it had been sitting for about 30mins before i tried it. did a compression check, pto 110, center 127, mag 125. the wiring is loose in the temp sensor plug. the plug doesn't snap tight on the sensor and the wire ends are loose in the plug itself. it has been like that since the beginning of last season, i've just never worried about it until now

well just got back yesterday, my viper held up fine, didn't loose any coolant and didn't overheat. ran fine, however i didn't hold up very well, i was fighting the flu the whole time i was up there and still am.

Sounds like it may have been overfilled from the start.

it may have just had an air pocket in the system to make it push coolant out like that. Glad it held up for you, sorry about the illness, that sucks.

It could of been that the rubber seal on the cap was not sealing good. Or maybe the cap is going bad. I had one go bad on my SRX and it would push antifreeze out the overflow.
Capacity
My last Viper did that all the time. The coolant system just did'nt have enough capacity to handle the expansion when the fluid heated up. If I filled it to the cold level line it would puke it out every time. If I let the fluid stay about 1-2 inches below the cold level line there were no problems. Just quit topping it off and you'll be fine. Kind of scary though isn't it!!!!

thats when you know you are a diehard snowmobiler. Most people wont even climb out of bed with the flu.
