I bought my wife a mini DV camcorder for Christmas(so i could borrow to record sledding and other...),anyway i was thinking i could just directly transfer from camcorder through computer to DVD burner, but the software that came with the camcorder (Panasonic PV-DV203) will only let me download 30sec at a time, can anybody help me out, is there other software(like video editting) i could get so i can just play what's on the camcorder and record to my DVD burner................Reaper

Yep, lots of good stuff out there. I highly suggest getting a computer with Windos XP. I am not a huge fan of Windows products but this XP just works great. Now, you get Windows Movie Maker 2 for free and I use it to make lots of the videos on my web site from a Canon DV camcorder. Go to any of your local software centers and purchase a copy of Pinnacle http://www.pinnaclesys.com/VideoEditing.asp?Langue_ID=7 I can type for hours on this subject but it's best that yo play with it and figure it out on your own and then ask questions when your stuck. I make so many movies now with the laptop it's a blast to add sounds and mix clips and play them at parties. Like a good snowmobile trip that starts out with the theam from the Sappranos and video of all the truck blasting to the mountains for (mob hit on the hill). We should have a forum to post all our cool work. As for ripping your videos to DVD you can use the same software for making and ripping. Doug

If you have XP then play with Windows movie maker 2. It's free and works very good. It has a bunch of transitions and effects also. I did these clips in about 2 min. If I had some time I would make them look much better but, I am so busy with work I don't get a chance to really sit down and play. http://www.sohonetworkx.com Doug

256meg's of RAM is OK for a start but if you get into this hobbie you will want more. 40gig drive if you have enough free is enough to get started. Yes, you need a firewire card also known as IEEE-1394 and you will need a cable. I am not sure about your camcorder but some of the newer ones are USB-2.0 which is faster than firewire. Check with your owners manual on your interface. If you need all that then go buy a Pyro-DV card http://www.adstech.com/products/PYRO1394DV/intro/API1394intro.asp?pid=API-1394PCI I hav one of these on my first editing station. It comes with and awesome amount of software for capturing/rendering/composing/making DVD's and everything for like 79.00 WHAT A DEAL. I have seen it at CompUSA and you can buy it on line and they will ship it to your house. Doug
