My 02 viper has a low-mid range bog. 7600 miles, with Hauk pipes and all the goodies to go with them. Ran great for a long time. I have not touched anything on it, put the pipes on brand new, probably should have worked on the clutches at some point. Ideas? Mine are, secondary, reeds, power valve, carb sync? Or maybe the motor is just getting plain tired, but I can't imagine that. I have not had a chance to look yet, thought maybe this crowd could save me some time.

Thanks.

are the carbs clean? its either going to be dirty carbs or something going on in the clutches. Clean and adjust the powervalves. Definately time for a good clutch cleaning and replacement of worn out parts, including springs, rollers, buttons (weights if they are worn), etc. Time for some maintenance on that bad boy to keep it running at its prime.

Do the spring loose their rate after an amount of time? I will check the carbs out good. I may need some help with the power valves, never messed with them before, I have a friend that can help.

scotch brite pad and warm water. and if you havent cleaned the valves in 7600 it sure as heck is time to do it!

Yeah, I know, need to do some maintenance, I got spoiled because it ran so well for so long. I promise if I don't clean them before the end of the year, will do it this summer! Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't wait till summer on those valves if you never cleaned them before. I would think they are sticking and you are loosing performance for something that costs nothing to do. Great that you didn't have to touch anything on that sled with that many miles but it's time and there is alot of riding yet. I know it takes time to do and if you didn't clean your carbs for awhile you are playing with fire. Good luck and do the no cost stuff because it will end up costing alot of $$$$$ in the end. Don't mean to sound fatherly but you have a good sled there.

yea definately need to get on that easy maintenance if you want to save money down the road and have that thing running at top performance and reliability and economy

OK, going to do a good look over this weekend. Friend of mine used to be a sled wrench, he is going to look it over for me. I don't want to ride it until I get it straightened out. No one seems to think it is any motor troubles?

My sled is a little in the dumps, but you know what is great! I bought my wife a viper last year, so tonight I just took that out and whipped up a quick 115 on the river. Not quite like the piped version, just a real basic clutch kit but sneaky smooth fast. Fun sled.

Thanks for all the input, I will let you guys know what I find out in case any of you see those symptoms at some point.

Well guys, I found it, got a $300 lesson in cleaning power valves. They were so dirty you could hardly pull them out. The cables worked on the valves and tore up the valve where it connects. Needed 3 new power valves and one cable assembly. Ouch. My buddy adjusted them for me. I am getting the proper RPM now, but still not the same sled as it used to be. I am going to do a compression check on it this week.
