I currently own a 01 srx and a 03 rx-1. A buddy of mine got out of sledding in the mid 90's. So this year i decided to let him come for a ride with me and try out my sleds. He rode both the srx and rx1 and he absolutely fell in love with the rx1. Some of his comments were that if feels alot lighter and handles better than the srx. He also likes the ride alot better on the rx-1. I told him that the srx is like 60-70 pounds lighter and he didnt believe me. He also likes the engine braking on the rx-1. He says it helps him through corners w/o having to use the brake. Not bad for a 03 rx-1 which some consider a disappointment :4STroke: I'm curious what he would think of the 05 since i have heard that it rides alot better, although never tried one myself. Just thought I'd give you guys some insight on how people really need to stop bashing the rx-1 and get on it and try it out.

thats awesome man, hopefully he'll be heading down the yamaha road in the near future. :yam:

whats this engine braking stuff? you mean when you let off the throttle it'll slow the engine faster?

engine braking

when you let off the throttle it feels as though you are pulling the brake a little bit. Unlike say an srx, which keeps goin if you let off the throttle, rather than slowing down. You really need to try one to see how it is, takes a little getting used to.

i really like that engine braking, and it really cuts down on brake usage. Definately a strong point of these sleds for tearing up the trails, because it gives you a lot more command with the throttle

Basically it feels like driving a car with a manual tranny vs one with an automatic. On a manual, when you take your foot off the gas the car slows down a lot.
A 4-stroke is like that because of the added rolling resistance inside the engine (camshafts, valves ect). Its harder for the sled to coast because of the engine's rolling resistance, and thats why it slows down so much quicker than does a 4-stroke.
When MotoGP (European superbike racing) went to 4-strokes the riders actually found that they could go harder into the corners because they had so much more braking ability than they did when they rode 2-strokes. They had their normal brakes and they had the added benefit of engine braking.
I hope I didnt confuse anyone on that one...
