I cleaned my power valves this past weekend on my 02 Viper that has 5,400 miles on it. I then was out riding and my display started turning on and off. The stator went bad again for the second time in three years. Anyone else have this problem? The dealer is shaking their heads as to why it happened. Any ideas?

I know of two different 02 Vipers that did the same thing. Remove your stator and check the three wires coming from the coils. you will probably find that one of the wires has either burnt off or broke off from it's connection to the coils. Take the stator to an automotive electric repair shop and they can repair the wire. It is alot less money than buying a new one from Yamaha.

Thanks for the suggestion live 2 sled. I already had the stator replaced. I just don't understand why the wires are breaking off and if there is anything I can do to prevent it from happening again.

sounds like i have the same problem on my 03 at idle, touch the brake ans the dash turns off and every thing dims. How much for a stator?

yea either relay or a short in the brake wire under the seat or in the taillight itself. Have seen it already happen.

well it is looking more and more like the stator I bi-passed the seat harnes, checked the condensers, checked the key switch and kill switch.thought it might be the regulator/rectifier but I am getting 14v ac and when i hit the brake it goes to 11ac same with on the dc side supose to be 14v dc and is 12v dc,then when you hit the brake it goes to 8v dc.
