You're welcome, New Yorker. That engine looked really nice. Hope it runs as good as it looks!
How many miles were on your sled when the crank went? I bought my sled used and haven't been able to find out if the crank was done or not. Just turned 5000 miles and so far, so good, but it's always in the back of my mind.
Good luck with it.

the vast majority of those cranks were done. I believe there was a marking put on by the dealers when the update was done. I think it is a dot near the serial number on the mag (recoil) side of the engine. Not sure on that though.

I bought my sled from a dealer (Road Track and Trail?) at the Illinois Snow Show. From the research I've done, I've found out that the previous owner was a "Yamaha freak." He sold this sled to upgrade to an RX-1. This thing was set up nicely when I got it--other than the rails being burned up at the bend. I know the spindle update was done, and I'm pretty confident that he did the crank, too. I'll look for the dot when I ride this weekend.

I had just turned over the 6500 mile mark when she went. I was running down the lake about 70-80 mph and it just bogged right out. I know something was majorly wrong with it, "you get the feeling when something bad happened." So I put 3 new spark plugs in it tryed to pull it over....no go...couldnt even pull the pullcord. Thats when I said every sware word in the book.
