can a yamaha cdi box break down after it gets hot and will it not let the spark advance? my problom is that after about an hour of riding the sled wont go go faster than 60 no mater what you do it is fine when we take off it seems after it gets hot it just wont go so where do i go from here

If your going to check your electrical system you should do all of it.First I'd check the ignition coils as if one is getting weak it can cause this type of symptom when it gets hot.If they ohm out all right them your next step should be the mag, check the resistance of the lighting coils etc but as far as the cdi I'm not sure if it would ack like that. From what I've seen with other brands that had a cdi go bad they either worked or not.I see you have an SRX and I've got the service manual for 98/99 models and can send you the resistance values to look for if you need them.PM me if needed.

electrical parts can break down once warm. There are electronic parts in the CDI that could fail once they heat up. A coil can do the same thing. Even a bad electrical connection can fail once warm. I would do some more investigating and testing before changing parts.
There is colling spray that you can buy, let the motor heat up and when it starts to fail cool of one part at a time and see what happens. Or make you resistance checks once the engine is warm and has failed.
Good Luck and let us know.
