anyone got any pics of srx 440's out there? lookin to do a "sleeper" just for fun if i can get one for cheap. i saw a few 440's with a blue paint scheme that looked like the recent srx's but can't remember where. any pics would be great. also, what year 440's were water cooled? any info on them would also be great to, not my generation!!! haha, thanks!!!

the old srx's are all liquid cooled, the gpx's and exciters, etc, were fan/air

they can handle a lot of power. I have heard that the racers were pumping up around 120hp out of the 440's, so it can be done. worst case just get the nicer comet clutch and let er rip! dad has an old 340, only made one year and a few of em. think it is a 7....76 maybe??

the 340 srx was only produced one year... 1976
the 440 srx's were produced from 1976 to 1980
the 77 srx 440 was the meanest, it was 96 hp in stock form from yamaha and weighed slightly over 300 lbs. it was all aluminum, the bulkhead and all as well as the rear suspension.
the 78-80 440 srx's were 82-85 hp and the 76 440 was close to 90hp.
here is a pic of my custom blue '77 full mod oval racer.
here's another pic too http://www.totallyamaha.com/forums/showthread.php?p=54754#post54754

i bought the sled with the blue hood/seat on it already.
the previous owner used it as a drag racer only. when i bought it we brought it home, stripped it to the bare chassis, blueprinted the entire drive system/chassis, then re assembled it as an oval racer. we made alot of changes to it durring that process. i found it down in Wisconsin and have since been told it may have came to Wisconsin from Utah. it resides in Canada now!
i have 2 blue hoods for it, the nicer of the two is hanging on the wall in my garage, the worst of the two i put on the sled to go oval racing...
with a few minor changes it could be converted back into a serious super lightweight drag racer.

it took me a full season to figure out the jetting in the sled.
being a full mod it is super finickey to jet. that first season i burned it down a few times. i ended up purchasing the digitron data recording system and a rad (relative air density) guage, both which made jetting the motor fairly simple.
it also took some time to get the handling down. going through the corners on an oval track takes percise tuning to keep the sled from pushing in the corners. especialy on a leaf springer as you can't adjust the ski camber angle on a leafer like you can with an ifs sled.
with everything dialed in, the sled is competitive on the oval track. in the straights it will pull or pass anything in its class.
