I have been reading some pretty high numbers on Vipers for gas mileage, even with piped Vipers. My Viper is stock except for the track and I am seeing about 90 miles to a tank of gas. Is that normal? I do ride hard...

140 to a tank riding 50-70 all day groomed, 120 WFO or in mashed potatoes. This w/ 6000 miles on it. I would say you have a problem.

Im getting 90-100 miler per tank and i have tripple pipes and a 136 x 1 3/4 track and i go about 285 lbs. with the gear on .....i would check into it ,you should be getting better than that stock

I get right around a 100 give or take 10-15 depending on gas and conditions. I have a CAI and the kit includes slightly richer jets, and a clutch kit. Other then that mostly stock engine wise. I wouldn't worry to much unless your plugs are black and your running really rich. If everything is in check, ride that bad boy and keep an eye out for gas stations :)

I posted the recent numbers with my 02' Viper with triples and I just want to say I wasn't bending the truth (115-120 avg./tank). I think what contributes to the good gas mileage is the extra power...meaning, I find myself not pinning the throttle anywhere near as often as I did with the stock machine. Don't get me wrong I still hammered it, but nowhere near as much...no need to. I will post numbers after I complete a day of WOT.

both of the stock vipers in our group get around 13-14mpg when we are tearing the groomed trails. How does the sled perform? Have the powervalves been cleaned lately? Are the reeds sealing tightly to the cages? Are the carbs clean? Floats set at correct height? Clutches working efficiently?

all this talk about gas mileage HOW can you campare with-out miles per gal
some guys fill up when the light comes on, some when they go by a gas station
and some run it almost dry!! 100 miles / 11gal = 9 miles to gal
100 miles / 8 gal = 12.5 there is a BIG difference!

I am planning on a UP trip this week I will pay close attention to the mileage and see what I come up with. The power valves were recently cleaned. The carbs are clean. I have not checked the floats or reeds. The sled performs awesome. Everytime I got on this thing I love it more! :yam:

I agree with Snakebit, we all need to use a more accurate measurement metric than miles per tank in order to make any feasible comparisons. Just take the number of gallons it takes to fill the tank (the pump usually tells you how many gallons or litres) and simply do the math for miles per gallon or kilometres per litre. Then we can make meaningful comparisons.

I rode the UP this past weekend and we rode from St. Ignace to Paradise. I rode the last 10-20 miles with my low fuel light on. I filled up about 10.5 gallons of gas and it was about 103 miles. It was a lot of 80 MPH+ riding except for the last 40 miles due to being afraid of running out of gas..... So do you think that the mileage is low? 103/10.5 = 9.81
