We just got back Saturday night from a week in Munising area. The trails were rough on Sunday and into Monday, but we were lucky to be about the 3rd sled on any trail after the groomer all week. We hit the rail road beds and went to Marquette. The trail was like a table top. We went south to Big Spring as well and had great trails. We went to Grand Marais and also had great trails. We sledded from Lake Superior south to Lake Michigan. Make sure you stop at Big Springs to see the fish. This is truly an experience.
The snow was only crotch deep in Kingston plains if you could find a spot that hadn't been affected by the previous week's warm up. All in all, it was a great trip.
The link for photos is below. Oh, the trails immediately went to hell on friday with moguls up to 3' in the corners. THere was snirt on 419 out of munising and icy corners, but other than that, it was great!!!

Anyway, here's what all we rode. I'd have to look at my map again, but I think the trail from BearTrap back to munising on Sunday night was beat to heck, mostly from the weekend riders. This is why we go during the week.
As for the trails... Hmmm... Trail 7 south to Big Spring was rough for the first 3-5 miles until we met a groomer, then it was fantastic. On our way back though, we went to the south and west to get fuel. We then took a different way back thru the mountains (hills) and my GPS lost satellite. This trail had it's bad sections making this a very long ride. We then met up with a groomer. Monday we went to Grand Marais, Miner's Castle and back. The trails were pretty good. Wednesday, we went west to Marquette on the rail road bed and it was smooth as a pool table. We then went south to Gwinn and back that way. It was pretty good as well. It was Thursday that we went south to Big Spring.
On Friday we went back to Kingston Plains and tried getting lost in the blizzard. Visibility was about 50 yard at best at times. It was great!! We rode and rode and then just used the GPS to get us back to the reference point we made.
As compared to trails in WI, this was perhaps my best trip ever. the trails in WI can get beat up pretty bad. As for 419..... that was a bad trail 80% of the time with icy corners and moguls. I have a 136 and it's not studded, so I could always find the ice. Last year, we got 4-6 inches 4 nights in a row up there so the trails were great too.
You've got beautiful country up there. Joel
I hope to have the GPS maps available soon.

Big's springs is a park in the southern central UP with a natural spring that flows into Indian Lake. Very nice area to ride, if conditions are good. 7 can be fun with a smooth trail..

Isn't that the truth. That's when I say it doesn't matter what you ride, it's going to hurt!!
