Hey guys,
Does anyone else have a 600 V-max twin? My dad has one, and it is very nice. I however, drive a 1978 Yamaha Exciter 440, and want to upgrade to a faster, more comfortable sled. The V-max is very comfortable, but seems to have some serious traction and handling problems...It never hooks up good on the trail, and sinks down in the powder. I want a fun, fast ride, and wanted to turn this V-max XTC into my sled. Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice track to help it perform better, or possibly any ideas on a better Yamaha I could invest in? Thanks...

if you can get it cheap it is a nice sled. did he do the updates and recalls that they had on them? it was new rings and pistons as they had some failures :( dad just got a vector a few months ago now, and the ripsaw is an amazing trail track. feels studded. throw one of them on there and some plastic skis and it would feel a lot different. otherwise, any sxr would be great and they had plastic skis from the get-go. how much you looking to spend?? if you end up selling the exciter send me some pics. it was one of the sleds on dads list that he wants as he bought one new in 78 and has nostalgic (spell??) memories lol!

I took my wife's '98 V-Max XTC 500 and had a Mountain Performance 136" track installed along with some plastic Yamaha skiis, and what a world of difference in both the handling and ride! The track is 1.25"

The sled now rides the trails like a dream, plus does very well in the UP powder.

with some clutching, a good track and plastic skis those can be real good trail sleds

Sorry, but I'm keeping the Exciter, its a real blast! If you give me your e-mail we can send u some pics! We also race SRX and GPX's at our local drags.

sent you an email called xtc 600 I think. can reply to that if you want :) dad has a 76 340 srx, but hasnt run it yet :(

I have a 600 SX. It handles really well. Put some twin pipes on it and it will fly. If you do that make sure you set the carbs or the engine will blow. Mine has 144 studs, M10, Plastic Skis, Engine is stock and it can hit 102 MPH. With twin pipes and a lower suspension it could do 110.
