is this common? seems more than usual. what might I check? has 4k miles on it, and is an 03. thanks

Funny, I just came back from a ride and I have the same thing. Gas is dripping out the bottom of the air box. 04' with 1100 miles on it. It doesn't seem like stuck floats, it runs fine. With the top of the airbox off I can see gas spraying into the airbox.
Any thoughts before I tear the carbs off and clean them?

mine is bone stock too, no carb work, clutching or anything. EXACTLY as it rolled out of the showroom, if that matters.
Yup, check the reed valves. Be sure to inspect them closely.

would there be any other symptoms? headed north tonight and want to try and check this over the weekend.

ours did the exact same thing, it was using a ton of gas and blowing gas back into the airbox through the vent line. It ended up being a bad diaphragm in the fuel pump. Fuel was just running out of the vent line. I originally thought it was the floats, but i set them to spec and it still did it just as bad. Check your fuel pumps. If you pull the fuel lines off of the carbs and gas runs out of them, there is a bad diaphragm.

huh, I was gettign about 13-13.3 mpg though
