I am getting about 200 miles before the oil light goes on my 200 700SXr. A buddy I ride with has a 2001 SRX and only goes through about a quart in that milage. It was not like this last year. The sled has 5000 miles, doesn't smoke excessivly, does not foul plugs and runs fine.
Is there a way I can adjust it without leaning out the motor? Can someone explain it to me? Thanks for the help!

150 to 170 miles to one quart, 24mm on oil cable, do you ride with a steady throttle pull or are you to the bar in and out of corners this can make your usage more......CP , 97 sx700

I ride with a steady throttle pull and I adjusted the oil cable to 23 +/-1 mm. It was originally at about 30 so I think I actually increased oil usage. In my last ride I went 85 miles and went through more then 2 quarts. Still not fouling plugs!
I called the dealer and they told me to bring it in in the fall. I suspect the oil cable needs replacing as the end that is supposed to be tight (the end closest to the motor) comes out. I don't think it should do that. That probably gives the cable too much play. Oh well! The Yammi still hasn't failed me! Just needs a little TLC!

Whew....definatly a problem. On a 1200 mile trip I used 3.5 quarts total on my viper. I'm steady on the throttle with some blasting.

the oil pump is going bad, it is pretty common on the non powervalved engines. Betheviper probably has one for you.

I agree with Yamaholic. At least your getting plenty of oil. Rather have that than not enough.

getting to much oil actually creates a lean condition if im not mistaken.....oil displaces gas.....

that is if it is mixed, because the oil is harder to push through the jets because of the bigger molecules and much higher viscosity.
