Just cleaned the carbs and I know it takes alot of pulls to get it going...but I must have pulled it a 100 times. I aslo pulled the top of the fuel pump off just to make sure no debris got in there.
Who knows...mabey thats why I can't get it going.
Its a 99 500sx that I've had since it was brand new. It now has 7100 miles on it and never had a problem until now.
On the way home from Canada it started idling funny with about 80% power. It was running on one cylinder SOMETIMES. It would want to die...then race. I fiqured I got some bad gas and the bowl got stuck or something stupid. I also have spark to both jugs.
Now I don't know if I fixed it cause it can't get it fired up. Tommarrow when I work on it I'll try putting some fuel in the cylinders to get it fired and mabey it will pull the fuel through the lines. #$%&*

The idling on one..then racing sorta sounds like an air leak. I'd check your carb boots for cracking...or maybe a crank seal.

Checked the boots and boast bootle...but what do you mean "CRAKSEAL" how do you check that? Wouldn't the only way to know if thats it is judt to do it and pray it works.

the crankseal is behind the primary clutch. I would also check compresion. Are you sure you put the carbs back together properly. Blown crankseal, loss of compresion, dirty carbs can all cause this problem.

I know the carbs are back the way they came out...by the way...which is the pilot jet. I herd before that if its dirty it will idle high which it was for the past couple weeks
I didn't get to work on it tonight...I still haven't gotton it running since I drained everything...I'm thinking I may have prime the the fuel lines with a pump to get it going :rocks:

this sounds stupid, but make sure you're got your fuel lines on. I have done that one many times.

after about 30 pulls, all cranky "why won't this damned thing start, and what the F*** smells like gas!?!?"

bypass the tors. I had to do it to my 700 after a rebuild. bypassed therm started right up, then rehooked them and it was fine. Don't know why, just know. Maxdlx

Where is the TORS. I have heard about it, just not sure what is and does?

look at the wires going to the carb bracket. Unplug the wires and plug the wired that go to the CDI into each other. This will bypass the switch.
I had the TORS fail on me before and never caused a hard to start condition.
This is a safety swtich if the throttle gets stuck open.

OK...so I put some fuel down the cylinder and it " puttered" It sounded like now i have a spark issue. Mabey after running in Canada it thought it was stuck open and TORS is messed up

Sled is running...but it sound sick. It didn't race when I sprayed carb cleaner by the seal...so thats good. I bet its a crack on the bottom of the pipe or a blown gasket at one of the ends of the pipe

Before you damage something I would take a long hard look at what you have tried to "Fix" since it was running good.

If you have to pull it over that many times to start it I'd look real hard at the fuel pump and the pulse line. Do you have it hooked up correctly? When the bowls are empty it takes quite a few pulls to get the lines and bowls filled back up. Also how did you remove the carbs? Maybe there is also an air leak at one of the boots or other gasket surface that was removed.

The sled now runs fine since I cleaned the carbs and lines...checked all the above. The sled sounds like it had a leak somewhere in the exhaust so I checked the "Y" pipe gaskets...they were practically disinagrated! The sled would have a small bog when I gave it gas and would idle high for a little bit when I let off. I never herd of these things causing problems before but I guess theres a first time for everything. I will change them and go from there...
Feed back?
