Did you use a strait edge to make sure the gears are running true. if they are out of alignment, it will break chains. Maxdlx

I think there is to be some bushings behind the gears to space them properly for correct alignment.
go here and look up your snomobile and make sure you are assembling everything right

With the chaincase cover open, turn the gears and check for wobble with a straight edge ruler, and as said earlier, make sure gears are aligned.

the only thing i can see is a problem with the alignement!! is it possible that a chain too tight or not enough tighten can break?

While tension is important in avoiding premature wear, I'm guessing your gears are likely out of alignment, ...which would be a more likely cause. Make sure your chain is finger tight (no socket wrenches on this one). An excessively loose chain will just skip the sprockets and you wouldn't get very far (i've done this one), ...make sure the locknut is tight.

tension could break the chain, especially if it was too loose because it would cause slackening/tightening under load, which would stress it a lot. More likely though, some of the spacers were installed in the wrong order or something, causing poor alignment of the gears. How are the bearings in the chaincase?

You can miss align the gears by not having the locking bearing on the shaft right. If you don't check alignment, and have the drive shaft over to the chain case side even 1/32 of an inch when you tighten the speedo side bearing your gears are going to stay out of alignment. It will not run long this way. I always check mine when putting it back together just to be sure. Maxdlx

Ive broken two chains on my srx in 6,000 miles only once did the chaincase get taken out. But whenever mine break im always jumping stuff last time i was pounding moguls and she hit the crest of one and she was done. The other time i was jumping this hump onto pretty much grass and she snapped there took out the case on that one. After comparing the two chains i bought a polaris chain it seems to be a lot heavier duty. So it may also be due to jumping and landing while on the throttle and not having the correct tension.

Well, my 2 chains broken up after taking some big mogul!!! But like i said, i did notice a drop in my top speed with the second chaincase and chain.. Its probably like you said, something wrong with alignement.. i will not repair the chaincase myself this time. I will try to find someone who are better than me with mechanical problem !!
