I have been out of the sled business for a couple years. Last sled I had was a 02 Viper. Now I have the new house done and want to get back into it. I would like one of the new 4 strokers but a little to much for the miles I put on. I want to build up a good trail sled that will stomp the Firecats. I'm thinking about the bender 835 on either the viper or the srx. Help guys want it to be my summer project.

a big bore viper(with pipes) or srx will end up costing more than a used RX1. for best hp for $; think about a ported SRX700

I would go with a stage 2 CPR 780 BB on a SRX. My opion is that the 780 will run the same if not better than the bender 835 and you do not have to buy the BB pipes that the 835 needs for the SRX. The CPR stage 2 780 makes 170hp and the 835 is suppose to make some where around correct me if I'm wrong 180hp. If so it comes down to clutching and CPR will have better clutching than Bender will. Just my 2 cents worth.

i would go with the CPR as well. Have heard a lot of horror stories about the cylinders being too thin on the 835

I have thought about finding a used RX-1 but I just can't get that two stroke out of my system. I'm leaning toward the srx. I'd like to put the 05 RX rear skid in it. I wonder how hard that would be. Have any of you guys ridden the 780 CPR? How's the reliability? When I bought my 02 Viper I was thinking about the SRX. I went with the Viper because of weight and suspension and was planning on triple pipes. If I go with the Viper for this build I want to find a nice Viper S. I can't wait to get started. I have a couple buddies with the F7's and I want to kick the s*** out of them, all in good fun of course.

Reliability CPR 780
Tim,
CPR 780 kit is reliable. I'm over 4000 miles with this kit. Very satisfied. This is with Jeffs bored carbs and the head mod. --mac--

I have been talking to as many guys as I can. I talked to Andy at FS Yamaha. They really know Benders stuff. Their head mechanic goes with Bender to Alaska testing. Andy said they've done several 835's with great success. He said that todays gas seems to be the biggest problem with two strokes. I have heard great things about Jeff's too. I better find a good SRX to start huh lol.
I wouldn't through the RX1 idea out the window so fast. They are sweet. The prices will probably be dropping too, with a lot of guys wanting the new models. Have you had a chance to ride one? Don't get me wrong, I love my SRX. But If I were to do it over I probably would have went with a RX1. There's always a turbo........
Whatever you decide, have fun.

How does the RX-1 run against an SRX. I haven't seen them run against each other. Most of all I want to kill some F7's.

My stock unstudded 02 srx ran against my friends 04 rx1 also stock and unstudded. My srx beat my friends rx1 everytime we raced. We lined up on the lake and ran for about a half mile.Out of the hole it was close, mid range the srx started pulling away, top end it was all srx.We even did some roll on racing from 60 mph to top end,in that race the srx still just slightly keeps pulling away to top end.Different set ups may get different results but these two sleds were bone stock with about 800 miles on each of them.

Ive also raced a few f7's with my stock srx's and never lost(on the lake).
Same story as blueblooded for me except the rx1 would get me out of the hole.

I just love those SRX's. I bought an 02 Viper thinking it would be better with pipes due to weight. The Viper is a great sled I had no complaints I even liked the stiff ride. The SRX is a completely different animal though.

I raced my buddy's '05 RX1 this weekend with my '01 SRX with a 1.5 inch track. Took him out of the hole big time, but i would pretty much call that a traction issue. That track is sweet for holeshots, obviously even better than that ripsaw

If you want a real fast reliable trail sled (220hp) my buddy has a price 1000cc srx for sale for 6700 bucks - its a $15000 sled and nothing short of a drag sled will touch it. Try to build anything for that kind of coin - I'm tellen ya - do this kit and you'll never mess with a measly 200 hp sled again. Check the for sale section - he had alot of calls and it might be sold by now - but it is almost april. you wont go wrong
