I am caught up in switching to Amsoil Interceptor! Have a friend that is a dealer and can get a gallon for $30. Anyone using it and how much cleaner are the power valves compared to Yamalube? Any info would be great! Thanks

Does your machine have powervalves? I no powervalves run the HP injector. I will be becoming a dealer for amsoil soon. I will be offering discounts to totally yamaha members. I will post as soon as I become one.

Interceptor should be closer to $22-24 per gallon

Buy yourself "preferred customer" status and you can get yourself some pretty good pricing ($15 cdn.) I've switched to Amsoil and although the jury's still out, ...so far so good, ...last I looked the PV's look pretty clean (Amsoil Interceptor).

Fleet Farm sells Amsoil Interceptor for $24.95 a gallon (USD) and Injector for $19.95 a gallon. Usually costs more than that to buy from a dealer.

Thanks for the replies. Atleast the first gallon was free. I think I am going to switch but find another source to buy it. Those prices you guy's put up are about how much I pay for Yamalube at the dealer. Have to look into it. Thanks!!

If you have a fesh top-end or a new machine run a petroleum based product until motor is broken in. Petroleum based products will help the rings seat. After a couple oil tanks full of petroleum based oil than you can switch to amsoil. Full synthetics are to pure for a fresh motor.

i have never seen interceptor even close to 24.95 a gallon, never seen it under 30. Guess i'll have to check out farm and fleet.

I've used them both and there is no difference in the amount of crud that builds up on the powervalves. Buy what ever is cheaper.
I might be able to find the pictures I took when I did a comparison between my two vipers. one was running on amsoil interceptor and the other on yamalube 2s. (my sled and the wife's) We ran the same speeds and same conditions so it should be a fair comparison.
I might try the same test on skidoo oil and amsoil next season... I need to find something that makes the valves easier to clean. Even 1000 miles is too long between cleaning.

are you serious? river city has interceptor for 21.95? I'm not talking just amsoil injector, but interceptor, black and yellow bottle?
I bought my Viper with 550 miles on it. The guy I bought it off of had the valves cleaned at 250 miles (neatfreak) I just got them cleaned about a month ago with 1800 miles on it since the last clean. I run Yamalube 2 and the valves were
normal build-up. (according to the dealer) For the extra price of Interceptor its your choice. My manual says to use Yamalube and thats what I use. I agree with DAN Q. Actually talking to another dealer as he recommended Interceptor and cleaning the valves every 1000 km or 621 miles! If not you would find a MAJOR POWER LOSS equvalent to throwing a boat anchor into the snow!! Well Like I said I drove 1800 miles with Yamalube and I found no power loss. I know some guys are "sticky" when it comes to oil and if its expensive it must be good. One question:
Would you put conventional CASTROL GTX in your $50,000 sports car? I would. So I guess you can stick with conventional Yamalube for your $10,000 sled.

Amsoil
I run amsoil, my powervalves are clean every summer I take them apart. But like someone said "run whatever is cheaper" I used Yamalube when I first got my sled and it's good oil.. I use Amsoil because it's easier to get than Yamalube.

any tricks to remove the "coking" without using someting sharp??

heating them up with a small propane torch a little bit helps to make it softer. Carb or brake cleaner works well to get the stuff off, and some steel wool or scotch brite.

My 2cents? The Yamaha engineers designed and tested the engine with Yamalube.
I cleaned my powervalves with brake cleaner and a wire brush on a drill. Easy and quick.

I think all those oils are about the same. I have run Yamalube, Klots. Spectro and currently Amsoil. It is hard to beat the price of the Amsoil and have the same results. Did you ever think that if you valves are real bad that you might have a jetting issue instead of too much oil or the wrong kind. Something to think about!
