Check for a ripped or torn carb boot letting in air.

or a dirty jet in the carb, or a leaky crankcase seal.

might even want to look for an exhaust leak

Carb boot between the carb and reed cage holder, plugged fuel circuit in carb, or crankseal on the mag end.
When rebuilding a burn down, it is always good to find the cause so that it doesn't simply repeat itself.

Exactly Ding....first check the jet...and the float bowl...clean all thoroughly...
verify the needle position....(many burndowns in the mid range due to improper needle position)the carb boot is next to inspect...making sure there is no cracks or holes or problem sealing....last....the crankseal can be checked by running the machine at idleand CAREFULLY (obviously very flammable)spraying ether on the seal...if you're idle increases....you have a leak
