Hi everyone,
I have 2 questions:
1) I have a camoplast cone track with 1 inch lugs. This track has a combination of 3 lugs heights, with the tallest being 1 inch (so all the lugs on my track are not 1 inch). I want to get more grab in the powder without paying $800 for a track (only in powder 25% of the time, so I don't see the need for a new track). I seen in the Royal Distributing catalog, they have the "Aluminum Triple Point Scooper" (1 inch) on page 266. I phoned Royal and they said that they are for grass drags and that I should buy a Ripsaw track, but the description in the catalog says otherwise (i.e. grass drags, deep snow and sno-cross). Are the guys at Royal pushing me to buy a new track, or are they right? Can anyone comment on these "scoopers"?
2) My SX Venom doesn't have much travel in the rear and when I hit the really bumpy trails, my sled bottoms-out every few bumps. Can I buy a better shock that will give me more rear travel? My yamaha dealership says 'no and Royal Distributing says 'no' as well. They said that I will need to replace my whole rear suspension setup. I find it very hard to believe I can't buy a shock with more rear travel....
Thanks in advance....

Ripsaw track will be much better... Have you stiffened up the rear skid or is it still in the stock setting?

Ya, the Ripsaw track is definitely better, but I can't justify forking out $800 for a track when my current track has less that 1500kms on it. I'd like to add something to my track (studs maybe?) and the "scoopers" seem to be the solution, but I need to get some advice before buying since I never seen these before.
Yes, I have 5 settings on my rear shock and I currently have it on 3 (5 is the stiffest). After some trail and error, 3 is the best for general riding, ...4 was alittle stiff, but it might be the best for bumpy trails. Maybe I'll change it to 4 and get used to it. I was hoping I could find a shock that would give me a few more inches of rear travel, rather than getting used to a stiffer shock setting.

Sell the track that is currently on your sled on this site in the classified section, and use that money towards a new Camoplast 9818 or ripsaw.

Ya I was thinking about it, and it seems that I might just do that. Just looking for different options right now....

A ripsaw track is NOT a good choice for powder. Any other 1.25" conventinal style lug out performs a ripsaw in powder. Those scopes your talking about would help alot but will wear down VERY quickly on any road crossings or parking lots. As for your rear skid, it has 11.5" of travel but the shock is a cheap non-rebuildable shock. Find a set of rear shocks from a SX-R or Viper and they will work much better. ===SRXSRULE===

Are there aftermarket rear shocks for the Viper? If so, what brand names are we talking about and I guess these shocks will fit my Venom? I'll check with the manufacturer before I buy just to make sure...

I checked around and Ohlins has replacement shocks for my SX Venom. So I'll send them an email....

ohlins shocks are incredible, if you want to fork out the money, they are VERY good shocks
I have a set of 2003 Viper shocks for sale. They have about 1400kms and are in excellent condition. They should stiffen up your ride. I am in NB. I can ship them out to you if you want.

on my viper I found setting spring then fra worked best for me 200+ #
don't know on the Venom? but can you adjust the fra to quicken the damping effect?
did you adjust your spring to have atleast equal or more space above the transfer
rod adjuster???

NB-Viper, are they Ohlins? Do you have a rear shock, cause I'm only interested in the rear shock for now. How much?

Snakebit, you got me all confused, "...fra worked best for me 200+ #..."
I only have 5 settings on each shock (5 being the stiffest).

I set this and weigh 200+ lbs
I dont know if you have this or not?????
Vipers have a full rate adjuster which changes spring and shock rate!
set ride height and if you ride hard? or are bottoming out set the rate adjuster stiffer!
it works! nice ride but then rate increases as suspension compresses
it is by the front mount of the rear track shock? but like I said I am not sure if the Venom has the same rear suspension or not my 97 SX also had it
look in your manual

I hardly ever get my sx-r to bottom out, I'm 220# with all my gear on and I have the FRA set to the middle. I didn't know yamaha cheaped out on the venom rear skid, I had thought they kept the same shocks as the sx-r. Are you sure the rear shock isn't too stiff or the middle too soft and you just "think" its bottoming out?
