I want my Viper to be louder. I am thinking about MBRP. What is the difference between race and trail? Anyother suggestions?

I have the race can on my 04 viper and its not that loud unless your really on the gas hard.A few peole told me before i bought it that i would lose some power but i didnt think i would lose enough to tell a difference,i was wrong.I noticed my sled felt sluggish.I now have the stock muffler back on,but will throw the race can on from time to time just because the sound of it is awsome, not worth the 300.00 i paid for it though!!!

The trail can sounds great on my Viper. No noticeable difference in power.
its not any louder at idle and has a nice WOT bark to it.

The trail can is alot louder than I expected...louder and better sounding than stock. If a race can is louder still....it would be way to loud.
WOT it has a nice deep 2 stroke growl..go with the trail can..you will like it.

get a sx can, drill the 2in hole in it and try it. the sx can mod sounds very good. this would be a cheap way to go

I put a bender can on my viper at the beggining of the season and it wasent that loud until like 2000 miles then it started to get loud and i mean loud i think it sounds really good now, but the can looks like someone made it in their garage i'll post some pictures of it next week so everyone can see what i mean.

yea dan is right, that can got a lot louder with more use, must be progressively burning the packing out of it. But it does look like someone made it in their garage in an hour, shotty looking cuts and welds.

I have a '03 viper with thre Snow Stuff Rumble Pack. I never rode the seld stock only with this silencer. I love the sound of it, but it's deffently loud. I mean I'm used to it now but after a long day riding I can still hear ringing in my head. I was sitting it my cottage and my brother took it for a ride and I could hear him miles away, just ripping down the road.

I have Hauck/CRP pipes with ~ 3000 miles on it and they have gotten too loud over time. I would like to quiet them down a bit. I wear an ear plug now in my right ear when using an open face helmet. Anything I can do to repack them?

Where do you ride?TylerZR62 said:I want my Viper to be louder.
Does any of it happen to be on private land where the landowners have given snowmobilers permission to ride and could easily take that permission away because they're sick of LOUD snowmobiles or do you trailer your sled to the boonies or a race track where nobody cares if your sled is loud?
I always used to argue that some Harleys on the street were louder than my sled but streets and highways don't get closed because of loud Harleys. Snowmobile trails do in fact get closed because of loud snowmobiles.
Please don't give the anti-sledder groups more reason to shut us down.

yes you can repack the cpr pipes you just need to grind off the small weld beads and take the silencers apart and repack them with fiberglass muffler packing. Several companies sell this packing, it is even in dennis kirk and HPE i believe. After you are done packing them, put the silencers back together and put a small bead of weld on them to hold them together.

Dude save your money. 150-300 bucks for sound...why? Do whatever you want, but keep in mind, like Sledder Steve said, it just makes things more difficult for the rest of us and snowmobiling as a whole. The only person who wants to hear your loud sled is you. As your pulling into town or a gas station with non-sledders there, take a look at their faces when a loud sled pulls in...nothing but disgust. Sometimes I get embarassed by loud sleds, because most people don't care if it's only one out of a bunch...the only thing they remember it that it was a snowmobile and it was loud.

Darn Tootin'
If we don't watch our noise in areas where other people can get annoyed by it, we may not be sledding on trails in 10 - 20 years. I will be too old to care at that point because I will likely be happy to just go across the yard, but some of you younger guys might care. Something to think about . . .

exactly why i dont run pipes anymore. The power increase is nice, but not worth the people that get pissed (although the most modern versions of pipes are a lot quieter, they get louder as the packing burns out, and most people dont repack them) Don't want to see those trails closing
I agree with the no loud pipes. It sounds cool but, they won't sound cool when you can't ride your sled because the trails are shut down.

i have the bender canister and the bender pipe. it sounded good before the pipe especially the more i rode it and burned out the packing. then i added the pipe and wow, alot louder plus the can is even more burnt out(about 4,000miles on the can now) it really barks wide open. i'm selling the sled at the end of this season(which looks like in about a week) i'm going to take the pipe and can out and sell them if anyone is interested.
