the front shock in the rear skid.. is springless. went over a bump last night, noticed something rubbin.. looked down, the spring came off of it, and it got caught in my center idlers and messed them up. what causes that? is it hard to put back on?

the spring just fell off? Are you sure the bottom of the shock rod is still there? This happen to my buddies 98 srx last year but the shock rod snapped in half near the eyelet. No matter what it is, not good. How is the W arm? It is very common for them to break, need some good gussets in the corners for any strength, then they will last.

w arm is broken

does this mean im gonna have to rip the rear skid out??

not that hard, count on 4 hours your first time thru

once you're good and know what your'e doing you can do it in an hour pretty easily

I broke my w-arm earlier this winter, and welded and reinforced it, then about 2000 miles later, i broke my front shock off at the end of the shaft. Both jobs are easiest if you remove the rear skid. Once you remove it once it is pretty easy to do, when i replaced my shock last week, it took me about an hour to pull the skid, install the new shock and reinstall the skid. Go ahead and pull your skid out and remove the broken parts. Have the w-arm welded by a local welding or fab shop, and you should be able to find a used shock on here or maybe your local dealer has some junk sleds that they could pull it from. Post back if you need any more help.

yea pull it out and weld that baby up (w arm) and get a new center shock. Just take your time and do a good job on the welds and it should be dandy.

is it hard? how long does it take?

When you put the suspension back in (Which IMO is the hardest part of the job). Put in the front, back, then center bolts. The instructions on the tech pages tell you to take the preload off by removing the transfer rods, but I don't like that idea. Once the rear bolts are in, the center shaft can be easily positioned by putting a pipe wrench on the center shaft and rotating it into place. The way I do it anyway, maybe someone else has some other ideas.

I have any wheels you need for that skid. let me know after you get it out. ===SRXSRULE===

Its not that hard to pull the suspension outof your sled. There are bolts on each side of your skid(tunnel). This is very easy to do but when re-installing the suspension you should have another person with you. This makes it alot easier. Install your bolts closest to your engine," under your feet," and then work yourself back. However, the farther you work back toward your snow flap the harder it will be to put back in. If you are by yourself and cant get anyone to help you remove the bottom bolts on your transfer rods and it will be easier.
Last week my rear-front shock broke inhaft.. I was sitting down drinking a nice cold beer when I realized that it didntt look right that my spring was laying on the base of my track. I guess the rod(shaft) broke inhaft by the eye..hmmmmm.. But If I were you find a nice used one because they are around 350 dollars brand new..ouchy Garth
