Has anyone had this problem with a 2004 Viper? Bellypan pops out from under the hood near the ski-well. If so, where you able to get Yamaha to give you a new hood ? I know the 02 guys(and ladys) where able to, but what about the 04's? Thanks Dave

I still have that problem

the only thing the 02' guys were able to do was take it in and have the dealer cut part of the side panel off, but mine still does it. PITA...I've tried extra hood straps and they just crack and break. I really don't know what to do at this point. I bought some small 2 inch door hinges (attatch 1/2 half hing to the hood and the other to the side panel) and replaced the door pin with a cotter pin, so it would be easy to open, but I'm afraid it'll be too rigid and crack the hood. I've though of buying some rubber to cut and place between the hinge and the side panel and hood to allow some give. Anyone think that would work?

Dealer support, tells my dealer that this is the only 04 with the problem, he offers a solution but won't replace the hood! Doesn't seem to make any sense to me, if its not defective, how can he offer a fix? "DEFECT": anybody know the definition?

your extra hood straps crack and break? That doesn't make sense. Tons of people add extra straps. I had them on my '97 sx for years, still look great and work perfectly

Yep...2 sets of Yammie straps. I have to have them real tight to hold the hood in place. Can you recommend another strap? Thanks!

I had the same problem and got the ski doo hood straps and installed them in the front corners. No probs so far except when I fliped it over to get it un-stuck. I liked the ski doo stykle better. It has the rubber strap with the ball on it and a U style groove that it mounts to. Mounted the strap the the belly pan and the u-cilp to the hood. Before it would pop out every mile or so. The last trip it popped out once or twice.

Was your Viper a 2004?

I don't understand on the cutting of the hood? I shaved the inside alittle and it work perfect. I have 02 which had the problem, Thought they fixed it after that but I guess not.

Yamaha seems to think the problem has been solved also, but I've e-mailled three 04 owners and two of them have the same problem!

I had my 02 hood replaced under warranty it was so f-ed up. Did the "hood mod" on the new one and added extra straps. There little fix couldnt cover up a oorly designed hood/pelly pan. even with extras straps I still had mine pop out. Oh well, that was many moons ago. one more thing....I still see this problem on 03-04's. ===SRXSRULE===

I can see something weird on a first year sled like I had but not two years later and still not fixed. I guess they just don't care? They were looking fourstroke even when I bought my sled with no stock tripple pipes on it.I like what they have for fourstrokes but on who's expense. Mine works fine on the inside shaving of the hood.Didn't bother me much because it worked but if I were in your shoes I would be mad.

I have on of the 04's he is talking about. It is a Viper-s, and it is a damn shame that such a nice looking sled has a hood with such piss-poor fit and finish. Don't get me wrong I love my sled but they need to address this issue with us Viper owners or I will have a hard time going to the Yamaha dealership when its time for a new sled.

Guys...the problem is the bellypan flexies too much. Just stand on your sled and rock it side to side. Watch the bellypan where it pops out, it will flex a 1/4" by just rocking the sled. I installed a large rivit up in the shock tower on each side. It pulls the bellypan tight against the bulkhead and helps ALOT. ===SRXSRULE===

Thanks for the input guys, if anyone else has this problem with the 04 vipers, or has had any luck with getting it covered under warranty, let me know. Thanks Dave
