Are these specifically for racing or can they be a good improvement for a stock sled???

I think they are for any sled that runs higher than stock rpms

won't do you any good man, you have to be spinning pretty high rpm's before this will start to make a difference, which means aggressive porting and usually aftermarket pipes.

yea and you dont want to be revving those kind of r's all day or you will be seeing some durability issues over time

for the archives: the auction was for a 98 SRX race CDI box (as tuned by yamaha)
these boxes are basicly the same as a regular SRX700 CDI except that the "rev limiter" (negative advance above 8500rpm) has been removed, allowing porting and pipes that spin the motor above 9000rpm to still make good power.
great for trailer queens
not so great for trail sleds
