We were all up at the camp to enjoy the week off during March break to enjoy the great weather and burn lots of gas. It turned out a friend of mine got a message from his sister in law wondering when her husband is to return. He had left their home late Saturday afternoon enroute to visit his sister and brother in law at the camp. The phone call didn't come until Sunday at 2pm. We did not know that he was even coming up for a ride. We told his wife to call the police right away. A search took place immediately with people from our hometown checking the trail to the north and us guys up the lake checking the trails to the south. Police and friends searched all night with no luck. I lifted off with a search helicopter early the next morning and scoped out the trails from the air. Around 8am my worst nightmare occurred...he was found submerged in the water in the narrows up the lake. We had checked that area before, but since it snowed the night he arrived, his tracks were covered. Since it was dark and snowing, he mistakenly drove into the open water.
He was 30 years old and leaves a loving wife and 4 children ages 1-6. He was an avid Yamaha man and loved riding his Viper...

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family too! Everytime I go out I keep it in my mind that I have a 4 yr. old that desperatley needs me to come home. Sometimes I feel selfish for going without the family and think of the risk involved. 4 children will be tuff and I pray she gets the support she needs for the children. thanks for posting this story to give us all a reality check.

Pete, sorry to hear of the loss both you and your friends family must endure. My heart goes out to his children who sadly may only remember their father from the pictures they have of him. It truly is a tragedy.

Please everyone, be careful. Ice is getting thin and snow is getting soft. To many accidents this year happening to people just trying to enjoy life and a great sport. My condolences to you and your friends family.

To fellow TY'ers...
I have been on TY for a couple of years now (maybe more, maybe less). I have been on other snowmachine sites and to be quite honest there is no other site that comes even close to this one. The people on here are second to none...always willing to help no matter what.
I know I don't know any of you guys, but I feel I know many of you well just by reading the threads. I truly feel that I can trust all of you on here for sled advice, buying parts, sharing knowledge and experiences.
I post a thread regarding a sad incident that hit close to home and read amazing responses. I called Sharla (Ben's wife...Ben is the father of four who died) tonight tell her that there are people out there on a Yamaha website who are praying for her and her children. She was completely moved and thankful. I explained to her that the website consists of Yamaha fans and she could relate because her husband was a Yamaha man. He would take her and the kids out on the Viper for rides regularly.
There is a trust fund set up for the family in which I will post here and on a seperate thread. There has been an out pouring around our community to help her and the four young kids. She doesn't have a job and really could use all the help she could get. As a fellow TY'er, I know that we can all make a donation no matter how small...it's the thought that counts. Cheques are payable to:
Trust for Bjorkman Family
Send donation to:

I will keep everyone posted.

These kind of stories hurt deeply to anyone but more so for those with children. I just returned today from my oldest sons 4th grade camp, 3 days of fun with 120 4th graders and then I read this post. Sorry to hear of the loss of a good friend Pete. The family will be in our prayers and thoughts.
