did you ever try 1970's arctic springs in you V4? We used to use them they have decent engagement and upshift hard. Find a AC hex clutch green and a yellow.

In the day, those were the trick springs Tim was selling, get a couple they drop right in, any old AC place has them, get a green and a yellow, I think places like HPE still sell them, they sell the dalton stuff as well.
