What kinda MPG are you guys getting on your viper with triple pipes. Which brand and if it is more or less than with the stock pipe and can.

I have ridden with SLP piped Vipers. Mileage is horrible. Power is similar to a strong running SRX but the fuel consumption is brutal.

Well

I have mine at 11-12mpg if I don't give it the gas-gas, the power I make with the SLP's is at least 145-150. Only loss is to my buddies ZRT800 D&D 1050. Will lose to others, but Rev 800, 03 F-7, Zr800 have yet to pass me at 1000'.

Will give spec's. if you need. Run at 1200 feet from -10F to +30F.

silencer won't give you any power, it will actually take away alittle. The pipes will give you A LOT of grunt, the mileage just goes down a little.

koodat what kinda gas mileage were u getting with the stock pipe? is the can really a waste of money? I dont see how it would take away a little power..? id never wanna lose power

my understanding it will sound kewl but 0 horse power gain or minus?
I put on the CPR pipes and it does use fuel, but I like the sound & power
and to say the least I am in the throttle a little to much ? maybe??
when I went west I used about the same gas as poo 700 & 800 rmk's and
better then 800 summit

yes the aftermarket cans sound good and lose weight but they will lose a little bit of power on top.

Check out my thread in the viper section titled "Help me pick some pipes" I decided on a set of SLP's myself after a lot of discussion. I bought a set and now have all summer to decide if I want to use them or not. I'm not a fan of losing the mileage some have, but there have been others that showed a improvement. Its all in the tune. I'm worried about the timing spike in the viper CDI from 8200-8500 rpm. That is the point you have to worry about when running pipes. They through in the huge spike because of the single pipe from the factory to give her some power.

pipes are individual exhaust pipes for each cylinder, tuned to the flow characteristics of the engine for a specific maximum rpm range. They allow the engine to flow as much air and fuel as possible at this rpm, and since more air/fuel charge equals more horsepower, that is the result, and the result is huge on yamaha triples. A silencer is basically just a noise machine added to make it sound good and lose a couple of pounds. They are really not tuned, and they use the stock exhaust system, replacing the stock silencer. They don't add much if any power, and actually on the srx's and vipers they lose a couple of ponies. If you want the raw power as well as great sound, get the triples. If you only want the good sound and not the power, get the silencer. If you don't care about either, leave it stock! They are most reliable in stock form.

This might sound dumb but.. what is the differnce between pipes and a silencer?

The only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. ;)!
