I'm planning on gettin a lightweight hood for my srx to save like 30 lbs (thats what they weigh right?)
Anyways, are they hard to paint? Anyone have a pic of a painted one? IMO non painted they are FUGLY.

I've heard that you paint the inside to get a good glossy look from the outside. Makes the finish look very deep. Where did you get it and for how much?? Is it made just for an SRX?

Stock hoods weigh around 23-25 lbs. Thats the hood, hinges, vents, pod, gauges, headlight, windshield. If you buy a lexan hood and put the gauges and headlight back on it you wont save much weight at all...Maybe 3-5 lbs. Also, the more holes you drill in the lexan hood to mount this stuff, the higher the chance it will crack/break. Its almost impossible to put hinges back on a lexan hood, it will break in a very short time. As for the Paint, paint the inside if you do paint it......BUT, paint makes them more brittle. ===SRXSRULE===

painting lexan
Lexan is a plastic that accepts paint very well. Make sure it is very clean before you paint it.If you are doing the inside, you should still try to abraid it lightly before painting. But don't sand too much or you will be able to see those scratches in the color. Clear the backside after you have put down your color for protection. The Dupont paint number for Yamaha racing blue pearl is J3852. Any Dupont jobber can mix this for you. You can't use solvent cleaner or even the plastic prep cleaner on Lexan because it will melt the plastic. Use only a waterbased cleaner to prep this thing. If it was me, I would still paint it on the outside so you can use the proper raw plastic system for refinishing it, like adhesion promotor, and flexible sealer. Also scratches are easier to buff off clearcoat than plastic when you need to.
