Does anyone have any input on which GPS units to buy/stay away from? I would like to get one for next season and am looking for ideas. I would like to stay under $200 if possible..

yammi21,
for the price, the best one out there is the Garmin etrex Legand, its small and you can load maps onto it.
I have one and have the topo software, i can loads the maps for more than a days ridding, and use it almost eveytime i go out.

here is about the best price i have found http://www.gpsdiscount.com/products/index.html?p=624, but somtimes you can find a good deal on one on e-bay, i paid $150.00 for mine brand new, but i got pretty lucky on the price.

the ram mount is great also http://www.mobilecx.com/page_results.php?uid=261

Camaro,
no one has the snowmobile maps, some claim to, but all they have is the trails in yellowstone and thats about it. the best bet is the topo map, then save your tracks as you ride. there are some sites that have the maps on them and list the cords., thats about as good as it gets

Yep, I agree. The e-Trex line is compact and powerfull. You may be able to find a good deal on one on ebay. I have a Vista with the monocrome lcd. Now with the color displays coming out there will be people looking for the new units.
One of the great things about the e-trex line for sledding is the compact size. They offer an inexpensive handle bar mounting kit that was originally designed for bikes that installs in about 2 minutes and is rock solid.
The higher end of the line (Summit and Vista) provide an electronic compass that allows you to know the direction your pointing without moving (something you cannot do with sat positioning) they also provide an altimeter that provides barometric presser readings. This is nice for jetting at higher altitudes.
