Hi,

I just sold my 2001 sxr 700. I absolutlely loved it but was ready for something different. I intend to buy slightly used to keep the cost down. I'm considering either a 03 RX1, viper, or SRX. Will I be disapointed with either of these vs. my sxr? I hope I didn't make a mistake. I'm an aggressive trail rider and not a jumper. Also, has anyone used the RX Jack rear seat setup?

Thanks,

shoulda kept that '01 SX 7R, those things rock on the trails. Suspension is better than the vipers stock because of the valving, engines are rock solid, headlight is awesome, looks awesome, they get great mileage, etc. But since you already got rid of it, a viper would probably suit you well. They are a little bit snappier than the SXRs, bout the same on gas, better on oil, but if it is an '02 and has the stock shocks, you will probably want to get them revalved, because they ride like rocks if you don't pound them hard. RX1's are awesome too, especially the '05s. Depends if you want two stroke or four i guess, they are definately very different machines. For me, it was from the '01 SXR to an '01 SRX, and i love it. Now that i got ohlins for the front she will ride like a caddy (has maxx perf. long travel in the rear already). Love the power of that thing, even after having the sxr piped and clutched well.

More questions

I know where to get an 01 SRX with Ohlins front shocks with 2000 km for $5000 cdn. I think it's a good deal. I know I will love the motor but I'm afraid it will ride like a tank. Does the Ohlins ride that much better? Tell me about going from an SXR to an SRX. Is it that much heavier? Also, is the 01 SRX any different from the 98 SRX?

Thanks,

The ohlins ride A LOT better than stock, not even comparable. The srx does feel a little heavier, but nothing extreme at all. The power difference is incredible. Gets just as good or better fuel mileage. The 01's have the new headlight style, better ignition, different suspension calibration for more weight transfer, and better porting for some more power over the '98

Went from a 2000 SXR700 to a 2000 SRX700. SRX was a very smooth running sled, lots of speed, not as good in the bumps as the SXR, lifted one front ski more on the corners. Fun to drive, but tired you out on a long trail ride. Ended up long traveling the rear, (VIPER Upgraded shock kit) , put extensions on the front stock KYB SRX shocks. Did make a difference, but not what I was looking for. Bought a 2002 Viper last fall. Has alot more speed than the SXR, not quite as fast as the SRX, but far better ride. I did do the "upgrade shock kit" to the Viper. IMO go with a Viper! It's stock and can still outrun, or at least run with the 800 Cats and 800 Revs.

you cant go wrong with a viper. they have good looks, plenty of power, very good handling, good gas mileage, and on top of all of that it is a very smooth engine. id go with the viper. :yam:

SRX is an incredible sled, I've never seen anything that can corner so nice or pull so hard in stock form, if all trails where groomed well 100% of the time, it would be the only sled made by now.

suspension is abit of a weak point, but with longtravel rear it's really not that bad, atleast I don't find it to be, my back's still relativly young I suppose, but my father agrees that my longtravel longtrack SRX rides substantially better than his viper or even his venture.

180-200kph anytime you want it, deceptivly fast machine, you're cruising along thinking to yourself "hmm, nice pace, how fast am I going like 100kph?" <look down at speedo> "holy shit 160!"

I love my SRX, but i can honestly say that my '97 SX and my '01 SXR both cornered better, the SRX has a little more inside ski lift. I have the long travel rear, and that is AWESOME, but i think i'm going to have to put a wide front end on it. It bites hard in the corners, just has more ski lift than i want. I really gotta be hanging off to keep it down through the corners.

yea whats going on with that? Insurance going to give you your money or are you going to have to keep hounding their asses?

Thanks everyone-Awesome site

Thanks guys,

This site is truly awesome! I am in Newfoundland, Canada and Vipers are holding incredible value compared to an SRX. 02 vipers are still commanding $6500 cdn. I think the viper is a better all around sled but the prices are keeping me from buying one. Maybe over the summer I can find a deal. The 01 SRX is still for sale in my area. Ohlins, bender transfer rods, cold air kit, Bender clutch, 1 1/4 track, 2200 KM. I can get it for $4000.
I'm still holding out though.

I think you should buy my 05 Ski-doo GSX I have listed on this site so I can pay for my 06 Vector GT! he he
