Hi everyone, Can somebody explain the purpose of reed spacers, and how they effect the power and response of the engine. Also, do they work equally well on all sleds? Are they needed once the "mod" has been done to the factory reeds? Do vforce reeds need spacers as well, or are they already "built in" to the design? Thanks

vforce do not need spacers

spacers move the reeds back out of the way of the rear boost port.

the reed knotch cuts the reed stopper to get it out of the way.

the reed spacers pull the reed completely out of the way

the knotch removes the blockage most of the way

vforce use not stoppers so they dont interfere

the best fix if you have the time is to use viper/srx reeds and do the knotch. this gives you more reed area and gets the stopper completely out of the way. the reed cages are wider and the case needs a bit of grinding to get them in. the stopper on these reeds are the same and you knotch them the same but they are mounted on the reed further back. when doing this you should port match your flanges to the reed stopper.

if you need reed spacers i have a set for sale for 33$ shipped

he's right, if you use spacers you have to be careful the carbs don't touch the steering column, in the float boal area and can wear through, i had to buy a SRX steering column to clear it, they have a bend built in there.... My vforce3 reeds have spacers with the kit already and are reshaped internally to clear it and give you a nice throttle response.......

you dont need an srx steering column to use the spacers. You definately CAN use one, but that is by far a more expensive route. You can easily just put a few washers under the rear motor mounts to shim the rear of the engine up enough to get the require clearance so the center float bowl doesn't contact the steering column. Much cheaper and it works.

Yes you can do this, but you will also have to raise the airbox to match it, if not the carbs will be tipped up at an odd angle, they also say you may have to shim the motor over a bit to clear them also....this is why i bought the replacement chromoly column on mine, and while i was at it, i made it 2" taller...
