Are you a beginner at riding motoX bikes? If yes to the previous question, do you have a death wish? If yes to the previous question, then buy the 490!

Start off with a smaller bike. 490's are a crazy bike. You need to build your skills before you jump on a bike like that. People always want to buy the biggest and the fastest toy's out there without taking the time to really be think about it and be honest with themselves. If you really want to learn to ride a dirtbike, buy something smaller and learn to be smooth and fast on it. Speed isn't always about having the most power, it's about being able to control the bike and make it do what you want it to do and finding the smoothest lines.

Yz 490 is an obsolete bike. They are also heavy. I'd go CR 500 if you want a good open class motocross bike. I would buy a 490 for nostalgia if I found a really good deal though. I had a 490 and it was hard to find parts (plastic) for even back in 1996.

I have found that I can actually run quicker on the trails on a smaller bike. Most trails I ride do not have alot of straight aways. A 426 four stroke or 250 2 stroke will be plenty.

those 426's and 250's are crazy in themselves

I had a 490 for 2 days till I sold it. Vibration in the bars was so bad I could not ride it without my hands going numb. On a cr500 now, but if I were to get another bike it would be A cr450 04 or newer.

If someone needs parts let me know. I have 4 YZ490's parked in the trees that are no longer ridable. Don't ask how they got wrecked!

can't you take the good parts from each and build 1 bike? LOL

Well you could after you straightened a frame or piece or two, but once you bend something it's always alot easier to bend it the 2nd time around!
