RE: 15 wide top gear with 13 wide bottom gear??
Hey guys, i was told to use 15 wide chain and top gear but i can use a lighter smaller 13 wide bottom gear, for better performance ( lighter weight and less rotaing mass), Heard the bottom gear can actually twist a little and not screw up the chain by binding it where it's a little more forgiving as ist's smaller gear on the wider chain, and no damage to the chaincase will result. He also told me arctic cats (bad word here I know) do this from stock on some sleds, can anyone confirm this will work???

You sure you're not confusing two different things? A lot of guys with 15 wide chains and gears will switch over to 13 wide for racing because its lighter = less rotating mass, but for trails and regular riding, why not just run the 15's if you already have them? Wider chain and gears is going to be stronger and more reliable.

No, im not confused (hehe i dont think) AC used this idea on a few sleds stock and i was told it's an old racers trick to save rotating mass while keeping a stronger chain in there.....

I just wonder if you would save enough weight on the bottom gear to only add a heavyer chain and heavyer 15 wide top gear. Turbo RX 1 s run a 3/4 " hyvo gear about the same as the 13 wide but different pitch and they seem to be holding up. As for the twist just look at the wear pattern on the gears and you will know if your shafts are out of alignment or your spacers are incorrect.

everything is linged up proper, thing is i want to have reverse and use a 41 bottom gear and 21 top gear with 9 tooth drivers, and i can only get this bottom gear in a polaris 13 wide non hyvo, if i went to rx1 type it would be very expensive, one bottom reverse gear 279.00 at yamaha 40 T, i can get polaris bottom for 79.00 41T , big difference....

gears
I don't know about the Polaris 41 tooth bottom reverse gear as Yamaha's is a 39 but Polaris 13 wide is the same as Yamaha's 13 wide. Don't mistake the 3/4 hyvo gears which is on the 00 and up SRX's, Viper's and RX 1' s but the RX1's also have a different top gear due to larger jackshaft spline. The 98 and 99 SRX's use the 15 wide. The MMax's and SXr's uses the 13 wide gears as polaris does.
Royal Distributors in Ontario has the parts you want listed but not a reverse gear.WEbsite is the same on Google.

i'm telling you right now you are not going to feel a difference by switching from 15 plate to 13 plate chains and gears, except your wallet will feel lighter. This really isn't worth it for anything but a race sled.

I am Racing this sled, this is why i went to the wider gears, but i can't find a yamaha 41 bottom reverse gear, IM not giving up my reverse, getting to the garage and off the trailer and changing start lines, but i want 21/41 gears so i was wondering if i could go to a 13 bottom gear since NO-ONE makes a 15 wide bottom reverse non hyvo gear for my sled......

they don't make the gear because SRX's where the only thing that had 15 wide bottoms, and they never had reverse
if you're racing the sled, why is the reverse still on it?
and what kind of racing are you doing that a 13 won't hold up?

I like the reverse for getting the sled in the garage, off the trailer, and switching lanes when racing, and for the trails, i still trail ride this sled, i know srx's dont have reverse but im using polaris 15 wide bottom reverse gears, and they only make 35,37,39
