Bought viper shocks a ?

hello! I took some advise I got here the other day from yamaholic I have a 97 SX600 I want a better ride I just bought a new set of viper long travel shocks (all4) the front shocks are they long also?
 
Yes, the viper front are longer then what was stock on your SX. ===SRXSRULE===
 
thats what i said but he wants to maintain the balance, so long travel on both ends. Viper shocks ride pretty nice as well, and the ohlins aren't the clickers, they are emulsion type.
 
still better I thought, and maybe the shock mounts that raise the front of the sled? I actually had the same sled and leaft the original clickers on and long traveled the rear. didnt seem out of balance at all really. I loved it :)
 
03, the big reason for that is that the long travel kits, say from pioneer or maxx, are designed to have a lot of sit in, so that the sled is lower slung and still corners awesome. Most people that put viper rear shocks in don't set them up with this in mind and have the back real jacked up. Take notice of people who have used viper or sxr shocks to make their long travel. If they just swapped them right in, they will set a lot higher than the kits. Of course you can adjust for this fairly easily, but most don't know exactly how to do that.

I wish I had known that before i bought thes viper shocks, bushing kit, bearings, idlers. hi fax, and now I am having all the metal parts stripped and a urithane powder coat put on! now what color?

I long traveled my 97 SX with Viper shocks and to balance it out I used the newer ski boots and ski's which raised the front about 1" higher than the original ski's and boot, that balanced it out real nice. The Ohlins are clicker (dial) shocks on the 97 SX's.

Just because it has ohlins on it doesn't mean that it had them on it from the factory, they were probably put on as accessories. But you're right, the ones that were put on as the factory option were clickers.
 
Kysledneck, I have a 99 sx 600 which has the upgraded viper shocks all around. The sled's front and rear height increased approximately 1.5 inches - slightly less in the front. You can definately tell the center of gravity has been raised. This sled used to rail around corners, but now has some inside ski lift. But once you become accustomed to the new handling characteristics, it's unnoticable. The ride quality outweighs the handling quirks.

Good choice.

yea i agree my '01 sxr lifted more inside ski than my '97 because of the slightly taller height. Definately something you could get used to though, and the ride is MUCH better.

Yamahaholic all the 97 600 Sx's came with the Ohlin clicker front shock's from the factory, it wasn't an option back then it was standard equipment. The 700 SX's came with the KYB's. I bought mine new back in October of 96.
 
oh i see, i was thinking of the later years when they were optionally installed from the factory if desired. That is a little weird to me that they are standard on the 600 and not the 700 though
