Like it says above. How much would it be to put K&N's in a viper. What size do I need. Would I get a lot more throttle response? Fuel Economy? Horsepower?

it keeps dirt out when you race on the grass. If you just trail ride stick with the airbox it will be faster.

gutting the airboxes, or removing the airbox altogether and installing filters makes the jetting real finicky for day to day riding.

same speed I find on the big airboxes (viper and SRX), no faster, no slower

edit: makes it ALOT easier to jet tho.

can swap mains in 45 seconds while running beside the sled as your crew is pushing it to the line.

doing that with an airbox is trickier, jetting between passes is nearly impossible

on the smaller airbox's I think there was a pickup tho, especially on the twins.

Here's something a little different, I modified a truck K-N filter to fit the stock Viper air box. Keep's the dirt out when grass dragging, and do'es a good of keeping the belt dust out of the motor in the winter time.
Still kind of a hassle to change jet's though!

hah thats pretty sweet your modified truck k and n. What did you have to do? I guess im not gonna waste my money on buying some filters.

I use a K-N part # 33-2129. I cut the horizontal lip off all the way around. I cut the filter to fit the air box on the back, notch out and right hand side's leaving the original filter edge for the front and left side. Tin snips work well for cutting the filter. For front longer straight edge I epoxy'ed a 3/4" wide aluminum strip to the filter to help keep it straight. Cut the filter so there is approx 1/4" gap between the filter and air box lid. This gap is sealed by glueing 3/4" wide 1/2" low density (the soft squishy stuff) foam all the way around the filter. I found it easist to glue the foam in stages, doing two side's and set it in the lid to hold the foam in place while the epoxy cures. Then do the other sides. I used Dura-mix 40-40 to glue the foam, it's two part epoxy that comes in a twin tube applicator, and is resistant to fuel/oils.
Try not to make the filter to tight, as it will squeeze the pleats together and could reduce air flow.
Also the two "tit's that stick up though the foam will need to be cut of the lid.
To service the filter I just pull the 4 screws that hold the lid on, and leave the filter in the lid for cleaning/reoiling.

Sometimes, gutting your airbox can actually cause you to lose HP, b/c the pod shaped filters are just pulling in hot air. As these guys said it makes jetting difficult. It is probably worth it if you're dragging, but if you're a trail rider, you're wasting your time.
