Hey guys, i need some help putting the rear suspension back in my buddys sx700, we're working on it right now in the garage and can't get the damn thing back on. And we've gotten so many different suggestions to how to put it back on. So far we've gotten the two front bolts on, but keep having trouble with getting the two middle and the two back bolts on the tunnel. Can anyone help me???

loosen rear wheels, loosen the bolt on the end of the transfer rod (the one on the rod not the one on the slide rail). Front bolts in first, rear bolts in second. Slowly lift the rear bumper and the center shaft will slide up inside (with a little guidance).

sounds good. what about the rear suspension, should that be loose or tight up?

What do you mean?

I mean. the actual spring on the rear shock, we have tight it up to about 3 inches. we have done as you recomended, but it is still very tight to get the middle one to fit. any suggestions?
We have put the snowmobile on the side to install, are there an easier way?

once you get the rear bolts in I find it easier to put the sled back on its skis. Then you lift on the bumper and the center shaft should pull itself up into place. As far as the spring it really shouldn't effect it..the shock is fully exteneded anyways so the spring tension has little/no effect on the install.

Alright, when we put the sled back flat on the skis, the shock rests on the sliderail when we hold the rear of the sled in the air. As soon as we put the sled down and the sled rests on the floor the shock goes up a little, but can't go further as soon as it hits the sides of the tunnel. It seems as if the tunnel is too narrow to get the shock back up in the tunnel. Not even pressing hard down on the rear of the sled seems to get the shock upwards in the tunnel, it just sticks to the side of the tunnel....

you may have to pull the sides of the tunnel some. It will go. Make sure you have the center mount flipped the right way. Maxdlx

Alright, we've stopped for tonight, the damn thing is killing us. We've tried putting the two front bolts into the tunnel in first followed by the two rear bolts and then tried pushing the center mount up, but it's just too damn stiff to get up towards the holes for the bolts. When we try pushing the center mount up, we also use a prybar to swing the small bar on the center mount up towards the holes, but nothing helps! This is getting extremely frustating, we've been working on this problem for two days now. Once with 4 people at once, trying to push that damn center mount back up in the tunnel, it just doesn't want to cooperate. As I wrote, it's like the tunnel is too narrow. We've tried pulling the tunnel walls away from each other as hard as we could while trying to push the center mount up, but still it pops back down or just doesn't get close enough to the holes.

Sounds like the center mount is flipped over. This can happen when the skid is out. Make sure the shock mount point is below the center shaft. If it isn't, you have to pull the skid and flip the mount over. Can't flip it over while it is in the track. Don't ask how I know that . . .

also try putting the fra in the soft posistion. You can also try it Docs way. That is how I had to do a buddies with a tweaked tunnel. Put in the front 2 then the center, and the rears will line them self up by moving the bottom control rod bolts. Maxdlx

Something has to be wrong here. I've done this several times by myself with little trouble. I do the fronts first, then the rears, and then the middle bolts. I found that you need to take the bolts out of the control rods also. The center shaft is tight with the sides of the tunnel, but it will go if the sled doesn't have any damage on the tunnel. Keep at it.

Hey Max
I saw a post from you a while ago about a possible new sled. Judging from your sled description under your avatar, you bought it huh? I just bought an 02 Viper too. Sending the shocks to Pioneer for a revalve, bought a new Camo 1 1/4 snowcross track(8860) from a buddy in Maquoketa. That will be the summer project, along with all the other crap I need to do around the house. Chad.
