Just woundering what I could expect for top speed with a 2002 vmax deluxe,700,power inc. center dump pipes. Every thing else is stock .These pipes are to run at 8100rpms. I have the clutching in to go with the pipes. It seems all I can get is 140kph.

What is it revving all the way through? Are you running stock gearing? The tall stance of the suspension, tall windshield, weight from electric start, reverse rotating weight, etc are all going to bring your top speed down. Is top speed the area that you are most worried about, or is bottom and midrange important too?

It is reving 8100 allthe way up just as it is should with these pipes. I would like to hear from other people that run these center dump pipes to get their opinions and advise.
everything is stock except the pipes and clutching

Check to see if clutches are aligned & centred & that the belt is not slipping in the secondary. I tried a set a few years back & alltho they don,t make as much top end power as the end dumps they should do better. Maybe you were also testing in soft loose snow?

when he said everything else is stock i don't think he meant carb settings too. You should be running 143.8 in the pto and 145 in the other two, fuel screws around 2 turns.

Be carefull with that jetting. I detonated a piston running 147.5 mains with centre dumps. That was the only time in 7 years I hurt a piston with pipes & it was those puppies!

Turk was it too lean or did you get some bad gas or something? Maybe a real cold day? The specs i gave should be good down to about -10F.

Warm humid spring cloudy day on fresh premium. That is the only time I ever blew a piston a a piped 700. I hated those pipes & turfed em after 2 weeks. A bud of mine just toasted his PI centre dump piped 700 this winter too. Same jetting..147.5 mains.

yea i didn't like the set i messed around with much either. However i did find the jetting i ran wasn't really on the lean side. It was about perfect on a 10-15 degree day. I think i also had 47.5 pilots in there too though, not sure if that would've made the difference, kind of doubtful. Just finicky pipes maybe?

1 piston in 7 years???? You're not trying hard enough!! lol. I've been known to do a piston in 7 days...keep failing the jetting test. I think 147.5s is where I'll end up with my end dumps...but obviously these are much different pipes.
140 is slow for a stock 700..something is up. Check everything Turk says and do a compression check.
