Hi
Does anyone know what the shiny coating used on pipes is? Is it nickel plating? I've seen bender racing cans with nickel plating. I know that the metal nickel is extremly poisonous. So when coating pipes, do you inhale dangerous fumes from the coating as it gets warmed up?

most newer pipes are coated with a metallic ceramic finish that is totally safe. i believe bender and a few others used to use a nickel/chrome plating (there is a layer over the nickel) that is totally safe too, but rusts eventually where the ceramic holds up much better.

i believe the ceramic coating is the way to go. i have also seen powder coated pipes/exhaust systems.
any coating will help acomplish 2 things. 1 it keeps heat in the pipe (good for performance), and 2 it keeps under hood temps lower (good for clutching/belt etc).
